Sugimoto
As a devoted student of art history, my fascination with photography has always been particularly strong. One photographer who has captivated me with his elegant, minimalistic approach to seascapes is Hiroshi Sugimoto. His horizon shots, featuring only the sea and the sky, and occasionally a sailboat, are both simple and profound, evoking a sense of timelessness and tranquility.
"Sugimoto" is my attempt to pay tribute to this master photographer by recreating an image in his style. The photograph was taken in Margate, a coastal town that has long been a source of inspiration for artists and photographers. To capture the essence of Sugimoto's aesthetic, I used infrared technology to create a dramatic and haunting effect, transforming the familiar seascape into a world of mystery and wonder.
The image itself is a breathtaking composition of subtle tones and delicate textures. The sea is rendered in shades of soft pink and purple, while the sky above is a blend of deep blue and white. The horizon line is blurred and indistinct, blurring the boundary between sea and sky and evoking a sense of infinite possibility.
Overall, "Sugimoto" is a powerful and evocative image that captures the essence of Hiroshi Sugimoto's work while also bringing a unique perspective and style of its own. The use of infrared technology adds an extra layer of depth and drama, transforming a simple seascape into a mesmerizing work of art that is both haunting and inspiring.
